Morgan Stanley: Three Factors That May Affect U.S. Stock Performance This Summer

By: rootdata|2026/07/10 10:20:38

Morgan Stanley's Global Head of Fixed Income Research, Andrew Hitz, pointed out that three major factors could lead to a setback for U.S. stocks this summer. First, the resurgence of conflict in Iran may impact the United States' strategic oil reserves, which have already fallen to historic lows. If the conflict escalates, it could weaken the country's ability to respond. Second, expectations of interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve are a crucial factor supporting the current bull market; Hitz warns that this assumption may be incorrect, and any error could quickly manifest, especially if the Fed is concerned about inflation. Finally, a weakening outlook for AI capital expenditures also poses a risk. Hitz noted that second-quarter earnings reports may reveal a cautious attitude among companies regarding spending, with some firms investing in AI experiencing poor stock performance, which could affect investor confidence and, in turn, market performance.
